Social media has become a simple and free method for small businesses to reach more customers. Recently Entrepreneur.com did the research on social media and offered small business owners the key components in using social media.

In the article, they referred to Buzzfeed and their exceptional use of social media. Your social media should be formatted in such a way that it creates the domino effect of people continually sharing your posts.

So what are those key components? A compelling headline to start with. Buzzfeed uses the “fast and slow” method, meaning a catchy and well thought of headline to lure people in, followed by a slow and simple post. This works because it allows audience who are scrolling through to read headlines without much effort before diving into the content.

Secondly, they noted using effective visuals on your posts. Social media posts with images are 2.3 times more effective at catching consumers’ attention.

Do you know the best times to post on social media? The research has been done. For instance, Facebook posts receive higher engagement on the Thursdays, Fridays and the weekends and between 1 to 4 p.m. Twitter, on the other hand, is more active during the day from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., with higher activity during the week. Instagram has a better engagement in the mornings and on Mondays, with lower engagement during the afternoon hours.
